Privacy policy

This notice explains what personal information DorpHop processes and how you can exercise your rights.

Last updated: 29 October 2026

Information we process

When you contact us, we process the name, contact details and message you provide. If you book an ad, we also process billing details, orders and payment status. For CMS users we process account and sign-in information. When you use the site, our server may receive technical log data such as IP address, device and browser. We store your language choice in a cookie. We count ad impressions and clicks by ad and slot; our server-side analytics do not use a persistent visitor ID for these counts.

Why we use it

We use this information to run the site, remember your language choice, answer enquiries, secure CMS access, manage listings and ads, measure performance and meet legal obligations. We will not send unsolicited marketing without an applicable basis or consent.

Service providers and external content

We use hosting, database, storage and analytics services to operate DorpHop. These may include Vercel, Turso, Amazon S3 and PostHog. An external image provider such as Unsplash may receive your IP address and browser data when its image loads. When you follow an external source or ticket link, that website’s privacy policy applies. When you pay for a DorpHop ad, a payment provider such as Paystack may process your payment details; we receive the transaction status and reference, not your full card number.

Cookies

The dorphop_locale cookie remembers your Afrikaans or English preference for up to one year. CMS sign-in may use essential session cookies. You can delete or block cookies in your browser, but some features may then stop working.

Retention and security

We keep personal information only for as long as needed for its purpose, or as required by law. We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect it. Service providers may process data outside South Africa, subject to appropriate safeguards.

Your rights

Under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act, you may ask what personal information we hold about you, request access, have inaccurate information corrected or deleted where applicable, object to processing and complain to the Information Regulator. Contact us at the email below.

Changes

We may update this policy when our practices or service providers change. The date above shows the latest version.
